Miami air handlers often sit in an interior closet, not in an attic. The condensate line runs from that closet to a drain. When algae or sludge blocks the line, the pan overflows into the closet, down the platform, and into the wall cavity behind the unit. It is quiet. By then the water is no longer a clean drip. Gypsum paper in a dark, cold closet is a good place for growth.
