Carpet in Miami sits on slab more often than on a wood subfloor. When water hits it, the pad holds a lot of that water against the concrete. Extraction through the face yarn is the first pass. If the pad is still heavy after that, the pad comes up. Leaving a wet pad under a 'cleaned' carpet is how you grow odor in a week.

For Category 1 losses we can often float and dry the carpet after the free water is gone. For gray or black water the pad is disposal. The face yarn is a separate call. Sewage that reached the living-room pad is not a shampoo job. We will say that before anyone books a cleaning.

Rugs need their own handling. A wool rug that sat in clean AC condensate is a different animal from a synthetic that sat in a toilet overflow. We will not promise a color-safe result on a rug we have not seen. The first hour after a burst pipe still applies: get standing water off the face, lift furniture with blocks, and do not run a household fan across gray water.

Technician insight

If the pad squelches after extraction, it is coming up. No amount of hot-water extraction through the face will dry a pad that is sitting on a Miami slab in August humidity.

+ Can you save the carpet?
If the pad is Category 1 and the backing is intact, often yes. Category 2 and 3 pads come out. We will not put a cleaned face yarn back over a sewage pad.
+ Do you clean area rugs?
Yes. Rugs come off site or get cleaned in a contained area depending on size and water category. We will tell you which on the visit.
